Rolex Complete Overhaul

A complete overhaul consists briefly of the complete dis-assembly of the movement, it's cleaning, re-assembly, lubrication and timing to Rolex specifications. It includes also the refinishing and cleaning of the case, bracelet and the replacement of the gaskets which make the watch water-resistant. After the service is completed the watch will be Rolex standard quality control tested for four days.

This service is warrantied up to two years depending on the age of the watch.

Turn around time is between two and three weeks.

Below are the complete steps needed for a complete service "the Rolex way"
  
1.When a watch arrives in the shop the information concerning the watch and its owner are entered on a job envelope and on a computer.

 
2. The bracelet is removed from the watch case and elements of the bracelet are examined for wear.
3. The watch case is opened and the movement is removed from the case. The case, crystal, crown and case tube are inspected for rust and any damage.


4. The hands, dial (or face) and date indicator (calendar) are removed from the movement.


5. At this stage the movement (before dis-assembly) will have a pre-cleaning. (allowing me to inspect cleaner parts and have a better vision during the dis-assembly).


6. The movement is disassembled and the main components are closely inspected for wear.
7. A list of needed parts is created and the estimate is generated.
8. Only now is the final estimate sent to the customer. I do not charge (yet) for an estimate but one must understand that a precise estimate means a complete dis-assembly of the movement and involves already quite a bit of work. Please fill the "Request an Estimate"form to know more about the cost of a complete overhaul.
9. After I receive a confirmation to go ahead the estimated needed parts are ordered (if not in stock). We have a large stock of spare parts and most of the time we can right away proceed to the next step.


10. When new parts are received they will join the disassembled movement for a second cleaning. All the jewels and some other components are manually cleaned before being machine cleaned.  (Two sets of cleaning jars are used for the first and second cleaning of the movement. A Vibrograph cleaning machine is used for this process)


11. After the final cleaning some components are treated with an anti-spreading agent. (keeps the lubrication to stay were it should)
12. The movement is now re-assembled and lubricated following Rolex specification.


13. The movement is adjusted and tested for performance and accuracy.


14. The hands and dial are cleaned to remove smudges and dust.
15. The hands and dial are fitted to the movement. The hands will align precisely and the date will change @ midnight (-/+ 2 minutes)
16. The case and bracelet are taken apart and cleaned in an ultrsonic machine.
17. The case and bracelet are polished and cleaned
18. The case and bracelet are satin finished and cleaned

 
19. The case is re-assembled with new gaskets or new case components to assure water-resistance. The gaskets are lubricated.
20. The case is closed and tested for water-resistance. The case is open to receive the movement.
21. The movement meets the case again.
22. The watch is visualy checked for dust or other cosmetic problems.
23. The watch is tested in five different position for accuracy  and good functioning. 
24. The watch is tested for four days in different positions and on an automatic winder to check the accuracy of the movement, the efficiency of the automatic system and the power reserve.
25. The movement is adjusted one more time if necessary 
26. The watch case is definitively closed.
27. The watch is tested again for water-resistance.
28. The bracelet is fitted to the case, in most cases with new spring bars.
29. The bracelet is checked for loose link screws and for the functionality of the clasp.


30. The invoice is generated and emailed to the customer. After payment the watch is sent to the customer. This process may take between two and three weeks to complete.

This service is recommended every two to three years. It includes the ultrasonic cleaning of the case and bracelet, the replacement off the main gaskets that are making your watch water-resistant and a general control of the functioning of the watch and the state of the case and bracelet.

 

Your watch is worn every day and an accumulation of dirt is going to accumulate between the links of the bracelet. After time this dirt will grind the different elements that are holding your bracelet together resulting in a premature damage of your watch band. If it is not prevented you may even loose your watch. Moisture is the other enemy of your watch. The gaskets that are making your watch water-resistant are wearing off with time and there replacement are necessary to protect your investment. A rusty Rolex watch can cost you a couple thousand dollars to repair.
